Ni Zheng

ni zheng (b. 1997, cn) is a composer of electroacoustic music. her practice calls for a descent into the necrophonic abyss to lament and abide with the residualized after-sound of violence, exploitation, destruction, disappearance, and loss. she creates sonic rituals of the flesh, summoning and purging its erotic intensity and violent affectivity as a libation, and wields radical negativity as a tactic against all forms of domestication. 

devoted to catalyzing ecstatic states of communication-through-self-dissolution with both humans and non-humans, she surrenders unconditionally to deviant and altered states of knowledge — intimate, sensual, relational, and immanent — in encounters with the other, the sacred, the occulted and chthonic realms of the land she inhabits.

her mediums include vocal performance that is visceral, feral, and atavistic, dark ecology field recordings gathered at desolate and ravaged sites, and a fusion of electronic and acoustic instruments.

she is a phd candidate in music at the university of california san diego, and now lives in philadelphia.
